Gardens of the Gardmed Network
The Mediterranean area is rich of gardens having a historical, cultural and natural heritage that are often unknown or unappreciated, while they are worth to be well valued and changed in economic resources, opportunities for sustainable development, and tourist attractions.
Within its scope and means, the project GardMed has sought to enhance the situation of Mediterranean gardens in Malta and Sicily, by documenting their historical and botanical assets and resources, as well as investigating options for their sustainable management and possibilities of marketing the garden network to tour operators.
The GardMed project involves twenty five gardens, both public and private, located in Malta and in the southern part of Sicily, mainly in Syracuse and Ragusa province.
Use the garden search facility on this page to find out more about individual gardens and what they offer. These 25 gardens which currently represent the GARDMED Network have been identified as examples of “Mediterranean” gardens, according to a set of criteria established and defined by the project.
